Bernard W. Smalley, Sr. Joins Raynes McCarty

Raynes McCarty is very pleased to announce that Bernard W. Smalley, Sr. has joined the firm. Mr. Smalley will continue his practice representing severely injured clients and their families in the areas of medical malpractice, workplace accidents and general personal injury. In making the announcement, Stephen Raynes, Senior Partner of Raynes McCarty, remarked, “Bernie is an exceptional trial lawyer, a leader in the community, and a genuinely wonderful human being. We are thrilled to have him join our firm to continue the next chapter of his brilliant career.

Our relationship goes back more than 35 years to when Bernie was Deputy Court Administrator for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Since then, his work on behalf of injured clients and their families has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has achieved exceptional results for his clients and has done so in a manner consistent with the core value system of Raynes McCarty – with exquisite sensitivity to the clients and with a commitment to confidentiality. Bernie is also deeply committed to our larger community and has demonstrated that commitment through his leadership and his and his wife, Jacqui’s, philanthropy. We are all very excited for his arrival.”

Bernie adds that: “Life has a way of coming full circle. During my career I have had the opportunity to observe and work with a number of exceptional attorneys. One of the very first attorneys and cases I observed as a law clerk to the late Judge Stanley M. Greenberg involved a seriously injured young man represented by this law firm and its Founder, Arthur Raynes. What struck me over 35 years ago, as it does to this day, is the passion and compassion the Raynes Firm and its Founder brought to the merits of this case, the future of this young man and his family. I am proud to become a part of the Raynes’ legacy.”

Mr. Smalley has achieved countless million dollar and multimillion dollar recoveries on behalf of his clients. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers and a Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He is a recipient of the Legal Intelligencer Lifetime Achievement Award, the Thurgood Marshall Award, and the Justice Michael A. Musmanno Award. Read more about Bernard Smalley.
