Amber M. Racine

Amber Racine has worked for more than a decade to help those who have suffered from catastrophic injuries. As a litigator, Amber works with individuals and families who have been harmed by defective products, negligently-maintained property, workplace conditions, and medical malpractice. She has secured several confidential seven- and eight-figure settlements against domestic and international companies for damages relating to her clients’ physical injuries, medical care costs, pain and suffering, and other injuries.

Clients working with Amber appreciate her tenacity, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, much of which she attributes to her early experiences working as a paralegal for a national litigation firm while completing college and law school at night. She is a noted authority on civil practice and litigation and has contributed to chapters of leading industry practice guides such as LexisNexis’ Pennsylvania Civil Pre-Trial Practice and Pennsylvania Civil Trial Practice. Amber’s creative approaches to litigation and deep knowledge of the nuances of Pennsylvania litigation practice help explain why she has received multiple honors from Super Lawyers, Philadelphia Magazine, and Philadelphia Business Journal for her work. Beyond her accomplishments in the courtroom, Amber is a recognized leader in the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania legal communities. She recently completed a one-year term as chair of the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia Bar Association and currently serves on the board of several legal organizations. In 2018, she was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf to advise on state appellate judicial appointments as a member of Pennsylvania’s Judicial Advisory Committee.

Amber has long worked to spearhead initiatives to enhance professional opportunities for African-American lawyers in the Philadelphia area as past president of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, Inc. She was given the Doris May Harris Image Award in 2018 from the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division for her work mentoring young women attorneys and law students. Later that year, she was given the F. Sean Peretta Service Award by the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division to commemorate her commitment to community service. She additionally supports pro bono representation opportunities for low-income Philadelphians through her work with Community Legal Services of Philadelphia. Amber was named a “Lawyer on the Fast Track” by The Legal Intelligencer for her legal and community leadership. She has additionally been included in The Philadelphia Tribune’s list of Philadelphia’s Most Influential African-Americans. Amber is admitted to practice in the state courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Pennsylvania.

In honor of our friend and colleague, Amber Racine, a true servant leader:

IN MEMORY OF AMBER RACINE

On November 11, 2020, Raynes & Lawn suffered the unimaginable, tragic loss of our dear colleague, friend and family member, Amber Racine. Amber was a super star, a brilliant attorney, and a servant leader in our legal community and beyond. Her accomplishments were dazzling, and her potential was unlimited. To those of us at RLH, she was our sister, our friend, our confidant. We will miss her terribly.

Confidential Settlement for Client Injured When Wheelchair Tipped Over
Our wheelchair bound client suffered a traumatic brain injury with subarachnoid hemorrhage as a result of falling from a wheelchair ramp which violated the requirements of the American Disabilities Act (ADA). The owners of the medical office complex ignored tenant complaints related to the ramps’ unsafe slope, insufficient width and dangerous drop offs. Mark LeWinter and Amber Racine took the case over from our client’s prior counsel and quickly developed a record which increased its value and encouraged the defendants to seek out mediation.

Confidential Settlement Against Employer Whose Intentional Act Caused Injury
Although states’ workers compensation laws normally grant immunity to employers from lawsuits brought by their injured workers, in New Jersey it is still possible to sue an employer who acted with a substantial certainty that its staff would suffer an injury. After Mike’s right hand was crushed and degloved in a rubber mill, it was discovered that the employer had moved the safety guards – to increase production – that rendered the guards ineffective. Mark LeWinter and Amber Racine were able to successful overcome the Workers’ Compensation exclusive remedy provisions to accomplish a well-deserved settlement on the eve of trial.

Confidential Seven Figure Settlement for Car’s Airbag Failure that Caused Fatal Injuries
Our firm represented the estate of a woman who was tragically killed in a head on motor vehicle accident. While the accident was caused by the negligence of the other driver, the airbag in our client’s vehicle failed to deploy, despite the direct impact of the collision, causing fatal injuries. Mark LeWinter and Amber Racine successfully developed the theory that the airbag’s components were faulty. In advance of mediation, our team created and presented a settlement video that truly depicted the tragic losses our clients suffered as a result of losing their wife/mother. As a result of the dedicated persistence of our team, mediation resulted in a significant settlement.
