Chuck Hehmeyer and Martina McLaughlin Author Article on Negligence Claims for Children with Metabolic Disorders

Raynes Lawn Hehmeyer partner Charles P. (“Chuck”) Hehmeyer and Martina W. McLaughlin authored an article for the Fall 2018 Newsletter of the Professional Negligence Section of the American Association for Justice.

The article reviewed how inborn errors of metabolism (IEMs) in children are diagnosed and treated, and also how they are often mis- or undiagnosed. “Identifying a Potential Medical Negligence Claim for Children with Inborn Errors of Metabolism,” detailed how lawyers considering taking on such a case should review medical history and records to determine whether a legal claim truly exists.

Hehmeyer has represented children with IEMs in twenty-four states in the country, securing many seven and eight-figure recoveries for children left injured by substandard hospital or physician treatment. He has collaborated on a number of such cases with McLaughlin, who herself has a distinguished career representing clients in a wide variety of complex civil litigation cases.
